Team Leader in Training - Purpose of Position
To learn and implement leadership skills that will specifically
aid in leadership of children
Specific Responsibilities
Engage and value each participant
Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving
in the group
Develop opportunities for interaction between campers and
staff
Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual
experiences a successful week at camp
Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group
problems or concerns
Help each participant meet the goals established by the camp
for camper development
Assist with guidance of cabin and unit groups and individual
campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities
Assist with carrying out established roles for supervising
camper health
Assist with carrying out established roles in enforcing camp
safety regulations
Assist with supervision of all assigned aspects of the campers'
day including wake-up, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest hour, evening
activities, getting ready for bed, nighttime sleeping, and other
duties as assigned
Aid campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills,
evacuating the cabin, etc.
Help campers plan their participation in unit-wide or camp-wide
programs, special events, and activities.
Assist in teaching or leading an activity, as assigned
Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings,
and supervisory conferences.
Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness,
punctuality, sharing clean up responsibilities, sportsmanship, and
table manners
Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking,
use of alcohol beverages, and use of drugs
Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment,
and facilities
Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy
Maintain good public relations with campers' parents
Submit all required reports on time
Essential Functions
Communicate to campers regarding safety regulations and
emergency procedures.
Communicate and work with campers ages 8-12, and provide
necessary instruction to campers and staff
Visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental
and other hazards related to camp activities
Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce
appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply
appropriate behavior-management techniques
Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct
the activity to achieve camper development objectives
Physical ability to assist campers in an emergency (fire,
evacuation, illness, or injury)
