Assistant Wrangler - Purpose of Position

Work alongside the Head Wrangler to carry out the duties of the Horse Program, includes feeding/caring for the horses, skills classes, trail rides, cleaning tack area and maintaining tack and equipment

Specific Responsibilities

• To assist Head Wrangler with horse program
• Brush and groom horses prior to daily rides
• Help catch, saddle and bridle horses

Essential Functions

• Communicate to campers and counselors regarding safety regulations and emergency procedures in the horse area
• Communicate and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to horse activities
• Abilities to observe camper behavior, to assess its appropriateness, to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and to apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
• Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct horse activity to achieve camper development objectives
