Team Leader - Purpose of Position

To set a Christ like example for campers while aiding in implementation of the character counts program in every facet of camp

Specific Responsibilities

• Engage and value each participant
• Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in the group
• Develop opportunities for interaction between campers and staff
• Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual has a successful camping experience Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns
• Help each participant meet the goals established by the camp for camper development
• Guide cabin, teams, and individual campers toward successful participation in all aspects of camp activities
• Carry out established roles for supervising camper health
• Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations
• Develop cabin or unit activity plans with participants as appropriate
• Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers' day including wake-up, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest hour, evening activities, getting ready for bed, nighttime sleeping, and other duties as assigned
• Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating the cabin, etc.
• Help campers plan their participation in unit-wide or camp-wide programs, special events, and activities
• Assist in teaching or leading an activity, as assigned
• Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings, and supervisory conferences
• Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners
• Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcohol beverages, and use of drugs
• Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities
• Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy
• Maintain good public relations with campers' parents
• Submit all required reports on time

Essential Functions

• Communicate safety regulations and emergency procedures to campers
• Communicate and work with campers ages 8-12, and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
• Visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp activities
• Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
• Use cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct activities to achieve camper development objectives
• Physically assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury)
