Life Guard - Purpose of Position

Aid in training and oversight of counseling staff and campers pertaining to pool and aquatic safety

Specific Responsibilities

• Aid Aquatics Director with teaching lifeguard training class to CIT’s
• Oversee safety for all waterfront activities
• Implement swim program that follows all lesson plans
• Aid Aquatics Director with oversight of waterfront equipment and complete safety checks
• Participate with waterfront emergency procedures and drills
• Help organize and supervise all waterfront camper activities
• Aid in completion of a post-summer written waterfront report

Essential Functions

• Communicate to campers and counselors regarding safety regulations and emergency procedures specific to the water front
• Communicate and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
• Visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to aquatic activities
• Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
• Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct the aquatic activity to achieve camper development objectives
• Current life guard certificate
