Art Director - Purpose of Position

Aid in training of art staff, development and oversight of art program, help encourage, support, campers and staff concerning art program, work side by side with the Program Director to help plan art program activities and ensure successful implementation of programmed activities

Specific Responsibilities

• Coordinate all activities in Art Center with Graphics and Photography Directors
• Oversee teaching of ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture and creative arts
• Establish and implement a complete Creative Arts Program
• Teach campers between the ages of 8 and 12 to appreciate art
• Organize and maintain creative arts facility and equipment including complete safety checks
• Make purchase recommendations to Program Director
• Train and supervise all Creative Arts Instructors
• Provide free time activities for campers interested in Creative Art
• Complete a post-summer written creative arts report
• Add creative twists to program
• Praise positive staff behavior
• Support staff and help them grow
• Manage undesired staff behavior in positive ways
• Help campers who need extra support
• Keep camp safe

Essential Functions

• Communicate to campers and counselors regarding safety regulations and emergency procedures specific to the art room
• Communicate and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
• Visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp activities
• Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
• Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct the art activity to achieve camper development objectives
