Assistant Program Director - Purpose of Position

Aid in training and oversight of counseling staff, help encourage, support and disciple directors, work side by side with the Program Director to help plan camp program activities and ensure successful implementation of programmed activities.

Specific Responsibilities

• Assist in spiritual development of Directors
• Help plan and organize summer program
• Help with counselor training
• Remove road blocks that keep Directors from performing at a high level
• Aid with discipline of misbehaved campers, Leaders in Training and Counselors in Training
• Meet with activity directors to ensure counselors are taking necessary measures to ensure campers are getting the maximum results from each activity
• Assist in planning and implementing daily schedule and supervising Director staff
• Assist with camper registration
• Aid in planning large group initiatives
• Run nightly LiT and CiT staff meetings
• Communicate leadership ideas to make camp run more efficiently
• Add creative twists to program
• Praise positive staff behavior
• Support staff and help them grow
• Manage undesired staff behavior in positive ways
• Help campers who need extra support
• Keep camp safe

Essential Functions

• Communicate to directors, campers and counselors regarding safety regulations and emergency procedures
• Communicate and provide necessary instruction to campers and/or staff.
• Visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp activities
• Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques
• Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct an activity to achieve camper development objectives
